Info (previously on Siren's Pull)

Canon Source: Alan Wake
Canon Format: Video Game
Character's Name: Alan Wake
Character's Age: 30's.

Canon Abilities:

No superhuman powers, Alan is a normal human, but he is a gifted and accomplished writer of many stories; most notably of crime noir detective Alex Casey (who pretty much is a copy of Max Payne in our world.)

He has a way with words and a very vivid imagination. Having won many New York times bestsellers, Alan continued to draw the attention of many readers. Even after he stopped writing, he became a bit notorious for having a temper. Which lately, is all the viewers wanted to see.

Although not an expert, Alan has some experience in using and maintaining guns. His only time to using said weapons, prior to the events of Bright Falls, was at a firing range and that was only for character research. On top of basic knowledge of weaponry, Alan had done a good amount of research in the field of private investigations and law. In fact, Alan actually has a good amount of tidbits. From the useful, to the ever occult (as he is a fan of a good horror story himself.)

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman abilities, what dormant ability will you give them?

One of the main reasons why the Dark Presence in Bright Falls merely touched Alan instead of making him a Taken was because of his mind. The creativity he had laying dormant was merely pushed and under the entity's control, he began to create a horror story come to life. Because Alan has been touched by Darkness, and was able to worm his way out of his grasps, his senses to the otherworldly are much stronger than most.

Call it the spider sense, but Alan will begin to feel whenever the Darkness is nearby. Though the ability will be weak at first, Alan will slowly start to feel the presence whenever it draws near; especially at night when the entities are a lot stronger. Over time, Alan will begin to feel their evil during the day; it'll be like a voice calling out to him. Much like the pull that brought him here in the first place.

Though he cannot determine what the Darkness' intent is, Alan can forewarn people of certain areas to avoid, or when an attack is coming. When a bad feeling overcomes him, he'll know the Darkness is planning something. He won't be able to sense the powers of the others who were drawn in by the pull, and like a magnet, since he's connected to the Darkness, the Darkness is connected to him. He can sense them, they can sense him.

Character Personality:

Alan often displays a sarcastic sense of humor; talking back, being cheeky. But all in good nature. Well, most of the time. Due to his two year writer's block, Alan is becoming more and more cynical, depressed even, and finding his witty humorous self to effect his once personable demeanor on a daily basis. He tends to be friendly, enjoying the company of others, but can only handle so much before he feels smothered by their presence. Especially in these last couple of years. Being around people feels more like a burden to him now. His wife, Alice, and his best friend, and agent, Barry, are the only human contact he can seem to handle.

He has a bit of a temper and is quick to go into it when something generally upsets him. A large problem of his irritability is the fact that he suffers from chronic insomnia, but he did tend to have anger outbursts prior to his artistic struggle; they've just gradually gotten worse. To say he doesn't appreciate his fans is a lie, but there are limitations to that praise. He likes a good compliment here and there, but with the constant gushing of just how big of a fan someone is, Alan feels its become more of a burden and tends to loathe meeting someone who is a fan of his work. He's just tired of hearing the same thing over and over and he's finding himself in the media a lot. And the paparazzi... He hates the paparazzi.

Generally a selfish and stubborn man, he is known for being self centered, but will go out of his way to help a friend or family member in need. This is shown when Alice gets taken by the darkness and Alan does everything in his power to save her, or when he leaves the light tunnel to go look for Barry when a helicopter he's in crashes. Alan will risk his life for those he cares about. Unfortunately, complications of Alan's work related problems have migrated into his marriage and he finds himself arguing with Alice a lot. And Alice is the love of his life; his muse.

As a child, Alan had a severe fear of the dark, even suffered from night terrors, but when his mother presented him a gift called "the clicker" his sleep problems minimized. Ironically, Alice appears to have the same problem Alan had when he was a child. To show he was concerned for her, Alan presented Alice with "the clicker" in hopes it'd help her like it helped him. Still owning the present his mother gave him indicates that Alan still has a fear of the dark. However, it became a problem again for him when the darkness began stalking him in Bright Falls.

Alan also has "daddy issues" due to never having really known his father; the guy abandoned his mother and him when he was very young, so he never got the experience of having a father figure in his life. Because of this, Alan is somewhat cynical toward people. He also has a history of substance abuse. His drinking is boarding on alcoholism and instead of dealing with his problems, Alan would rather wash them away with a nice cold drink. Due to his writer's block, Alan has also grown depressed. Combine that with the frustration and insomnia and you've got one man a prime target for the darkness.

Overall, when Alan is at his best, he's easy to approach, happy, and generally sympathetic. But at his worst, Alan dislikes being around people, is distant, and becomes frustrated way too easily.

Since his entrapment within the Dark Place for nearly two years, Alan has learned to adjust to his surroundings; which means being prepared for anything to come his way. His will to resist the temptation of the Dark Presence is strong and he's constantly fighting off its influences; writing his way out and one day back into the arms of his wife Alice. Having accepted himself and all the wrongs he's done in the past, Alan's constantly trying to better himself and make up for all the negativity he displayed before the events of Bright Falls.

Appearance/PB:

Alan's of average weight and height (about 6'2) with brown hair and blue eyes. He also sports a small beard and mustache that are becoming more than your average peach fuzz.

[Voice]

[Alan's voice is nervous. He's nervous for arriving mysteriously and having a phone that actually works for once. He doesn't know if he's free, or still trapped. Is this in his head, or reality? The phone he has in his hands confuses him; it's similar to one he owned, and other than not knowing how he got it, there's something not right about it. Other than being nervous, Alan tries to remain serious. He's been in similar situations, but no many how many times this happens, it doesn't get easier.]

My name is Alan Wake. Siren's Port. GPS won't tell me where it is. Somewhere in Canada? But I seem to have found myself stranded here. I doubt this place is even listed anymore on account of it being in such bad shape. The place looks abandoned.

[And just as he says that, a hideous inhuman cry yells out in the distance. You can hear the breath leave Alan's mouth as soon as that monstrous cry emits.] It's getting dark and there's a building up ahead. I'm heading there for shelter now should anyone receive this message.

[Just before the voice feed clicks off, the sound of what appears to be a gun loading is heard.]

Third Person Sample
Time under Cauldron Lake and in the grasps of the Dark Presence was at a loss. Hours seemed like days, and days weeks. There were moments where Alan could feel himself slipping away again, the pull of something unfathomable reaching its dark tendrils into his thoughts and telling him to let go. To give up. But Alan kept his mind intent and pounded away on the keys of the typewriter; determined to write himself out. And while he'd become close -he'd managed to escape for a short while and make contact with three others in the Arizona desert- Alan was one step closer to finally being free.

But the pull he felt this time was different. It started out low, a hum almost, and gradually grew until Alan could no longer stand it. It was a Darkness calling. One that invited him to stay, not focused on using him like a puppet.

With the windows of the cabin already surrounded by the oily threads, Alan was trapped, a small light and his sanity keeping it at bay. He was suddenly swept up in a daze, everything clouded, and in one fell swoop Alan was lying in a dark and wet field. Nauseous and disoriented, he had no recollection of why he'd been brought here, or really, where here was. But the pull remained; albeit not as powerful as it was prior to his being transported here. If the Dark Presence was responsible for this, then it'd never tell, but Alan knew for sure that what happened was an entirely new experience.

No, it wasn't the Dark Presence's doing. It was something else. Something different. Another darkness he had yet to encounter. But it was also eerily similar to his feeling of dread. Regardless, Alan was determined to find out where he was and what was going on.

Alan had hoped he'd been freed, but he didn't remember writing anything powerful enough that'd cause such a reaction, and besides, this place oozed with an uneasy feeling of fear and death. Even as he stepped out from the baseball field and a cold chill spread rapidly across his damp body, Alan knew he wasn't home. There was no feeling of relief. No sign of happiness. No calm. And the setting sun was a sure sign that something was waiting for him in the shadows.

And it was dark all over again...
